As a first step, companies must screen the list of the individual activities covered by EU Taxonomy to identify which are relevant to their company. Such activities are called “eligible”.
Eligible economic activities are then screened against assessment criteria to determine whether they are environmentally sustainable (these activities are also called “aligned”). Every environmentally sustainable activity must meet all of the following criteria:
Activity substantially contributes to one of the six environmental objectives
Activity does no significantly harm any of the remaining five environmental objectives
Activity complies with the minimum social and governance safeguards
STRATEGY
In general, individual datapoints should be easily identifiable by separate items reported in a list of letters: a), b), c). If needed, these can be further subdivided into small roman numbers: i, ii, iii.
Please remember that datapoints provided in the ESRS are not exhaustive.
Given specific circumstances, the reporting company may need to add additional (so-called entity-specific) information to meet the objective of the disclosure requirement. This is where the objective, which sets the principles-based approach, is important.
Datapoints can be either quantitative (i.e. numerical value such as energy consumption) or qualitative (i.e. description of a policy on energy efficiency).
EFRAG has prepared a [draft] list of datapoints included in the ESRS as part of its implementation guidance for ESRS prepares.
The list is provided as an Excel workbook.
The preparers can refer to this list to find the detailed disclosure requirements contained in individual ESRS standards and also to use it as basis for their gap analysis in preparation for ESRS reporting.
Moreover, the list includes additional information useful to navigate and filter the content.
